Ian McKellen is an English actor who is very popular for being the “Magneto” of the film series X-Men and for being Gandalf in the film series The Lord of the Rings. He also is an award-winning actor. He actually is a recipient of six Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BIF Award, two Saturn Awards, four Drama Desk Awards and two Critics’ Choice Awards. He has also received two Academy Award nominations, four BAFTA nominations and five Emmy Award nominations. Ian, aside from his achievements, is also an open gay but he only came out recently for the fear of being rejected in the industry. He feared that his sexuality will get into the way of him achieving his dreams as an actor. Since he entered hollywood in 1959, a period where homosexuality is heavily punished, he feared that he may not be a successful actor. But upon realizing that his life and who he really is, is what matters the most, he regretted not coming out sooner. “My life totally changed for the better, my relationships with my family were better, I was a better son. I was a better brother. I was a better uncle. I was a better friend … everything was better” he said upon coming out to the public as gay.
