The Aquino Blues: The Biggest Controversies Faced By the Aquino Administration

New Bilibid Prison Scandals

High-powered firearms, illegal drugs, sex toys and other contraband were seized when police raided the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City on November 4, 2015. But this seems a little nostalgic of the events that shocked most of Filipinos in 2014 when the DOJ through NBI raided the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and was surprised to see the prison ruled by drug lords.

The luxurious lifestyle of drug lords inside the prison has garnered the anger of the public and the spotlight was turned to the corrupt practices in the New Bilibid Prison. And just when everybody thought the problem of corruption was solved last year, another scandal surfaced just this month – high-powered firearms, illegal drugs, sex toys and other contraband were seized when police raided the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City on November 4, 2015.

Many have been asking, “what has the government been doing to curb corruption in the bureaucracy?”, “is the government protecting a privileged few?”

With just months until President Aquino steps down from his office, what tangible and sustainable reforms will he leave as his legacy? Will he be remembered because of the biggest controversies which stormed his political career or by beneficial policies which the Filipino people will benefit?
